For those who like a darker look to their web sites, we've two new skins available - Fire and Electric blue.

These skins make use of some of the cooler new CSS features found in modern browsers such as rounded corners, shadows, gradients and rotation. Therefore, they won't work so well in legacy browsers. At the time of writing the compatibility pecking order goes:

Chrome: everything works
Safari: 99% works
Firefox: 90% works - enough to use the skins
Opera 10,11 alpha: still lacking some CSS 3 features
IE 9 beta: still lacking many CSS 3 features
IE 8: erm, no

Ooohhhhhh............... Pretty.

Unfortunately, I keep getting an authorization failure. I'm running the latest Firefox. Just updated it too.... Uh, the number at the end of the page's address is 5, if that will help.
And I like the blue one so much, too...

EDIT: I logged out, and then back in, and it went through, so it might have been my cache or something.

That's nothing to do with the skins - that is because of the fact you've upgraded whilst still using the same session, and its seen a change in your browser user agent.

Log out from the profile menu then login again to fix it.

Very nice.  Thanks jrabbit.  Now, is there any chance we could get some matching themes for the forum?  Going from a dark TTH theme (using Fire now, was using Randy Black before) to the bright white glare of the forum is rough.

Wicked. Almost makes me wanna do a tweaked blue and then a matching banner. Illyria CSS3 for the win.

SECONDED!

Yeah, that'd be nice. The only banner I found that fit blue is the gradient one. Hey, if you're bored or something sometime, would you do a red and a blue variant of the gradient one? The normal one works, but a color matched variation would fit  better...

I like the new skins But I just noticed in the Fire version that the characters in the menu text are uneven and jump around when hovered over or clicked on when using Firefox 3.6.11 or Safari 5.0.2 (on Windows 7). However, there is no unevenness or jittery text when using the Fire theme in Opera 10.63.

The Doctor: And naturally, you wouldn't do anything so insanely dangerous as to carry it around with you, would you?
Ace: Of course not. I'm a good girl and do what I'm told.
The Doctor: Excellent. Blow up that vehicle.

I checked out the new themes, and in my eagerness to experiment with the two, I kept frantically looking for a themes dropdown on the main site, before recalling that I have to go into my settings to access that.......

other than that, very cool.

everything seems to function on firefox 3.5.13, I've yet to find something that doesnt function right.

I'm not going to do any work on forum skins until it is upgraded to 2.0, which hopefully they will release in the next few months - its been in beta long enough.

The menu is supposed to slanting on the Fire theme. Opera doesn't support the matrix transformation CSS style at all, hence it looks OK, but is straight. Firefox supports it, but as you say, doesn't get it right as the characters move around a bit. Chrome is the only browser that properly supports all the features used in that theme. The Electric blue skin is slightly less demanding and has straight menus, so looks okay in more browsers.

Opera 10.6 does not show any background gradients, just solid colours, and doesn't get the inset shadows on the main banner right either. Firefox is very close to working - apart from the moving characters in the menu the only other thing it lacks is support for rounded corners on images, but they are rarely used in the design.

I was going through my tracked authors, and the stories I'm tracking (and marked read) are darkened. Is this suppose to happen?
EDIT: I mean in the new Blue skin.
