Those of you with an e-book reader will be pleased to hear we now support downloading stories in MobiPocket format in addition to E-Pub. This means that using an Amazon Kindle you can now download stories directly from the built-in web browser as e-books. To use this feature, select the Whole Story link at the top of the first chapter. Usability enhancements to make it easier to reach this link will be following in the new year.

That is *great* news! Until now, I was downloading the text version... which usually has some problems with punctuation (some of the quotes are unicode instead of regular ascii). I hope the Kindle version will work better in that regard.

The EPUB format that we have supported for some time now works on the nook.
Every e-book reader except the Kindle supports EPUB apart from a Sony product called libre which was only sold in Japan.

It works wonderfully! My only problem is that you have to completely replace the file if you download an unfinished fic and the fic gets updated. Then again, I don't think there is a way to add to epub files, so oh, well.

Then again, I don't think there is a way to add to epub files, so oh, well. Note: The Kindle doesn't do ePub. It has its own ebook formats. Which is why jrabbit added it as a separate download format. To get ePub on a Kindle you have to jump thru a few large hoops to convert them to something the Kindle supports. To have "updateable" ePub, it would depend on several things. 1. Some kind of commonly agreed upon "update" standard for ePub files. Since ePub was designed for ebooks which don't normally get updated, that is unlikely. 2. Ebook readers/ software would have to support this idea since that is where this update would occur. 3. ePub generators would have to support this. I've never seen any mention of such a thing. ( I'm not sure if someone has invented it but if so they haven't shared it.) There is a program called Calibre that converts between ebook file formats but that isn't the same thing. And it is possible to edit non-DRM ePub files if you really want to but it would be a manual step. It's just easier to get the complete thing when it's been updated. |

I was using "epub" as a file super-type. I was kinda trying to say "electronic publication file types". Sorry I didn't make that clear.

WOOHOO! A convert!! Well, technically I'm one too but..... The kindle is awesome. Word of warning, if you want to use the article mode on the web browser, you need to let the page finish loading before bringing up the menu. I got quite annoyed before I figured that out.

...ok, I received my kindle 3g today and just tried to use this feature and it didn't work.
I got a message asking me if I wanted to download the file (in this case one of my own stories), I selected yes, the kindle does *something*, but then it doesn't appear on the home menu. any help?
btw surfing tth in general is pretty painless. I love the kindle!
edit: I reset the device and tried again and this time it worked...not sure why it didn't the first time. No problems here!

I have a CSS (or whatever it is) skin, and since I can't wander around my tracked authors without being logged in, I just go through my computer. It only adds a step or two, and with the cord I don't have to pay to get it sent to my kindle.

I don't think using the built in browser to download .mobi costs money, only if you send a file to your kindle via the whispernet address that doesn't have 'free' in it.

I know it's been a while, but I've just picked up an early Sony eBook reader 2nd hand that only supports BeBook and some sort of PDF format - I'm hoping to get it upgraded to read ePub too, but is there any possibility of adding support for BeBook or is it just too obscure?
